They say that rain on your wedding day is good luck. Now, I don’t know if that’s true. But I do know rain on your wedding day has the potential to create something special because rain, usually, means things aren’t going to go quite as planned. And in those moments where schedules and plans have to shift, that’s where a couple can really shine. I can think of no better example of that than Kyle and Adrienne.
On an overcast but dry afternoon last November, I drove up to the gorgeous On Sunny Slope Farm in Harrisonburg to begin the day’s wedding coverage. Kyle and Adrienne had planned an outdoor ceremony overlooking the gorgeous and surprisingly green-for-November hills of the countryside and the weather was iffy on whether or not it would cooperate. And normally, when that happens, brides and grooms can be a little anxious, a little nervous. The mood in the bridal and grooms suites can be subdued. Well, not for this couple and their bridal party. There was literally nothing that could put a damper on their spirits and they were laughing, dancing, and singing without a care in the world.
And yes, it did start the rain the actual minute that the ceremony started. And yes, it rained through the entire time we scheduled for family portraits and bridal portraits but, honestly, it didn’t seem to matter. The mood of the entire day was so joyful! It was incredible to be a part of.
Kyle and Adrienne were so fun to work with. It takes about three seconds of being around them to tell that not only are they perfectly suited for each other, but they’re kind of crazy in love with each other too. They make each other laugh so easily! It’s a beautiful thing to witness. And there were so many little personal touches that made the day special. Adrienne wore her mother’s wedding dress, her bridesmaid and friend Lia made all those gorgeous shawls the maids are wearing, Kyle and Adrienne’s dog Peanut Butter was a featured guest at the ceremony, and Kyle’s groomsmen busted out some of the most insane dance floor choreography I’ve ever seen at a reception!
